The First 100 Days – Birth of a Movement!✊✌🏼

There’s nothing like a united community to strengthen your resolve when struggling with pain or challenges in your life. So many of us who feared for our nation found out that we were not alone and that we have the power to affect change.

The Women’s March on January 21, 2017, in DC and around the world was a galvanizing moment of solidarity. We were all blown away by the sheer numbers of marchers and the overriding theme of we do not respect this “so-called” President and plan to do everything in our power to fight back against the horrendous agenda put forth during his disgusting campaign.

The energy generated on that day lit a fire under those of us involved and even those who had never been involved in politics or marches before. Simultaneously groups sprung up across the country to organize and strategize on how to defend our rights against proposed legislation and demonstrate our opposition to actions that had already occurred.

The determination to resist Trump has awakened a sleeping giant that is vehemently “woke” who won’t be lying back down anytime soon! The only positive effect Trump has had since his election is to force citizens to stand up for themselves and their neighbors; a realization that has had a profound effect not only on myself but the country as a whole.

The project that took me out of despairing and the corner of my living room after election night was the ResistTrumpTuesdays rallies created by the community organization MoveOn. The idea was to harness the overwhelming energy from the Women’s March into an actionable plan of protesting for the first 100 days of the administration at local representative’s offices to express your feelings and displeasure about the state of the nation.

Our Charlotte ResistTrumpTuesdays began on January 24th with hundreds of us regularly showing up at lunchtime to share our deeply personal stories on many topics including healthcare, Russian involvement in our election, the immigration ban. I’m proud to say we created a safe environment where everyone felt free to express themselves.

This past Tuesday was our last official gathering but definitely not the last in the fight to kick out of office those who would do harm to the American people.

This slideshow highlights the camaraderie and kinship we have felt and developed over these past 100 Days of Action!

In Remembrance – 1 Year😔

Prince felt deeply and shared his soul with the world. It’s so hard to believe his life force is gone although he will always live on through his music and our memories. It’s been very difficult for me to express in words my shock and sadness over his passing so I put together this video in memory of the one the only Prince Rogers Nelson.

Music – A Soul’s Story 🎶 📖

This Easter’s sermon imagined the resurrection of Jesus as the possibility of our own resurrection in starting our lives anew. The idea reminded me of my own renewal since beating cancer and how the experience has changed me; seeing my life with new and fresh eyes.

Treasuring each moment and taking the time to just “Be” feeds my soul and music plays a key role in this serenity. Music can lift your spirit or conversely indulge your melancholy. It creates a mood and can affect your state of mind.

“Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield is a song that definitely uplifts my spirit and reminds me that each day I get to write my own life story!

God’s Abundance

Belief and Faith are hallmarks of my daily living. I agree with Celia Hales, author of “Think Outside the Box” that we draw abundance by believing in God’s grace and favor. One of my favorite quotes is “

Our lives are more full and enriched when we realize that God provides for all.

“Let us return for a minute to the base idea behind the issue of money or abundance: the way you have learned. The mind would tell you that nothing is “given,” and that all must be either learned or earned, most times both, for you have learned in order to earn, learned in order to […]

BreakOut! It’s Better to Travel✈

In anticipation of my dream of a lifetime trip to Florence, Italy next month, I’ve decided to carry on my adventures beyond just this destination. I owe it to myself and my life’s purpose to explore and grow in mind and spirit through travel.

My daughter who’s traveled around the world has long been an inspiration for the idea of discovering new and different cultures. She’s shown me that stepping outside of one’s day-to-day familiar surroundings opens the door to vast experiences and learning opportunities about others and hopefully oneself.

I invite you to make plans for maybe your first or even your next adventure. We all benefit from reaching out and bonding with our fellow human beings. We may come from different lands but we all share the same DNA. Take a chance and step outside of your comfort zone. Share the love!

So, in the spirit of breaking out and discovery, I present this energizing tune from one of my favorite bands, Swing Out Sister. Their 1986 hit “Breakout” is a single from this British act’s debut album It’s Better to Travel and has revved me up on numerous occasions. It always inspires me to get up and get out there. Today’s the day to make it happen!

Enjoy!

Inspiration – Believe✨

A mantra that I embrace is that attitude is everything. Living a conscious life with intention and purpose. We reap what we believe. We all have the ability to create the world we wish to live in. What you visualize, you internalize and what you internalize dictates what you realize.

“You have within you right now, everything you need to deal with whatever the world can throw at you.”
